Architectural Technology - 1970

What brought you to Mohawk College?

My father said I should go to Mohawk College since he said they had a very good Architectural program there. He said Architecture has always been my passion.

Tell us about your favourite Mohawk experience?

Our Architectural class in 1970 found out about an old underground wine cellar out in the middle of a field on campus. We started the process to save it and worked on developing it. It is now the Cellar and part of the Arnie. I was also the editor of the yearbook Kayaton'70 (Kayatonhseradogenhti) the Indian word for Bible. and it was published in 1970. In 2022 I received the Alumni 50th Anniversary of Graduation from Mohawk College.

What impact has Mohawk had on your life?

Upon graduation I went into homebuilding design and advanced to Construction Manager for Freure Homes in Kitchener. While I was there we developed 11000 homes, churches and high rise developments. I worked for 45 years with them and I was President of Construction Safety Association on a volunteer basis. I received the highest award in Ontario for publishing 100 Safety Publications distributed to 80,000 construction workers while I was an employee with Freure. My training at Mohawk for three years prepared me for the challenges of building that much in Construction.

What are you up to now?

Immediately upon retirement from Freure's I opened my own Safety Consulting Company GGT CONSULTING INC.and started doing part time safety inspections on jobsites. Freure was my first and largest client and I have worked with them now for eight years. During that time I got them the largest safety award for 250,000 working hours without a lost time injury. Personally in 1994 we adopted a 6 week old boy from an orphanage after 7 weeks in Ukraine. He has grown to be a young man and has become a drone expert. Two months ago he took to $150,000 drones to Ukraine to help them fight the war. In my " spare " time I build exotic wood furniture from oak, walnut and acecia woods. I also enjoy landscaping and travelling to northern Ontario. My experience with Mohawk College has affected my life in a very positive way. THANK YOU MOHAWK!!
