ELIZABETH PIKE (FORMALLY GREIG)

OTA and PTA - 2019

What brought you to Mohawk College?

I was really torn on where to attend for post secondary. Originally I really wanted the experience of being in a new city and moving out. But once some other circumstances arouse and I realized staying home and communizing is what would make the most sense, Mohawk was an easy choice. I loved that this was a smaller program, that it was a commutable distance, and that there was lots of hands on experience to be had in both labs and clinical placements.

Tell us about your favourite Mohawk experience?

I really enjoyed getting to know my classmates and really make connections with them for the duration of the program. I liked that the only people in my classes were people from my program so it was really easy (and enjoyable) to find a study group and have people to lean on in the highs and lows of college life. I also enjoyed the opportunities for hands on experience in class as well as the option for extra lab time when needed.

What impact has Mohawk had on your life?

Mohawk really set me up with the knowledge and skills I need to be a strong and wise professional in my field. With the skills and confidence I had at graduation I had quite an easy time finding a satisfying and fulfilling job to start my career off strong.

What are you up to now?

I started applying for jobs a couple weeks before graduation and actually got offered a position before my official graduation even happened. I was lucky enough that a placement I was previously in and loved was hiring and I was so hopeful to end up back there one day. I have been working at said job since graduating in 2019 and have held many roles within that. From casual, to temporary full time, to permanent part time, to float positions. The opportunity’s are endless and the departments/ work environments within the job are very diverse so I’m always on my toes and learning new things/ gaining new skills which I love!
